The Lord Shall Provide!

My Rich Scottish Heritage.

Welcome!

I support RavenNuke(tm) with themes and I also offer other good resources for designers.  I make every attempt at keeping the links current and pointing to the best websites where you can hone your skills.

This website is running on RavenNuke_v2_5 the most current release.

What's coming your way?:

>> jQuery is red hot and new versions are being released pretty often.  There is practically no limit to the things you can create using jQuery.  Check it out for yourself [HERE].

>> API's (Application Programming Interface) are also becoming more visible.  There is no reason for a designer not to include API's within their software.  Here's an example I took from "How Stuff Works."  "An API is a software-to-software interface, not a user interface. With APIs, applications talk to each other without any user knowledge or intervention. When you buy movie tickets online and enter your credit card information, the movie ticket Web site uses an API to send your credit card information to a remote application that verifies whether your information is correct. Once payment is confirmed, the remote application sends a response back to the movie ticket Web site saying it's OK to issue the tickets."  Another good resource is buried within Google.

PMCCT Themes

PMCCT themes that are displayed for download here are not W3C compliant to XHTML1.0 or CSS2.1.  But they will be once I release PMCCT V4 which will be available to the public when it is completed.  I know that is a screwy way to set a release date, but, I have my plate full of other projects now.  Version4 will be an attempt at seamless integration with RavenNuke(tm). The themes below work fine on all major browsers, but please let me know if you have problems, via my forums.

Look for more themes to be released very soon, under this category

Socialism versus Capitalism  Score: More about Printer Friendly Send to a Friend Save as PDF

For the life of me I cannot fathom how so many people confuse Socialism with Capitalism.  We are under a Capitalistic system where as the wealthy invest their money to create jobs, allow for banks to borrow money, free enterprise and a good life whether you are rich or poor as long as you work and contribute to your community.  Now the 99% people want to destroy something that they can't even comprehend what it is they are destroying.  I do firmly believe that they think the top 1% are going to buy their car, fix their house, put food on their tables, etc.,  Nothing could be further from the truth.

What should happen is that the Occupy movement should be making their voices heard through the electoral process.  Since the Occupy Movement is ineffective, and people are losing interest and going home, it should be stopped and then the Occupiers can go back home.  I know a lot of them are homeless.  Statistics show that the large majority of homeless people have chosen that path on their own.

Socialism, the hope of the 99%:  General description of the left: the belief that individuals should be judged on how they treat other people rather than on their job/race/sexuality, that people should have equality of opportunity, that in principle wealth should be distributed fairly to everyone who works rather than the minority who own most of the economy and most of the wealth and that an economy owned by a few individuals without a strong public sector to balance that is undemocratic and unjust.

The only problem with the theory I described above, under Socialism, is that no one would own anything.  The country could be invaded because the military would be under the control of inexperienced fools.  And that is just the beginning.  Of course this is merely fantasy.  There aren't enough protesters to pull it off.  Now that Obama has reversed posse comitatus.

Spammers + Medications = Horse shit  Score: More about Printer Friendly Send to a Friend Save as PDF

Have you ever wondered why most spammers advertise medications and send you to sites that look legit?  The reason is because they are selling illegal, dangerous, and copycat products.  The worst part of the scam is that they also get your credit card number, home address, email address, and possibly your phone number too.  Identity theft is a big player in this counterfeit drug scam.  The crooks usually get away with three things:

1.  Spamming your email or website or both

2.  Profiting from your purchase of potentially life threatening medications

3.  Stealing your identity

And I'm not just talking about China, it happens in all countries including the USA.

Social Networking and More Score: More about Printer Friendly Send to a Friend Save as PDF

I think a lot about the direction the Internet is taking.  Since "Social Networking" has caught on and seems to have spread across the entire world, more and more of the worlds youth are finding out just what democracy means.  Social, media has recently sparked regime (via the use of Tweeter and Facebook) change all across the middle east.  Twitter, I think, is the preeminent voice of the world.  Facebook, I believe, will one day go the way of the dinosaurs, into extinction.  I, myself, have an account that I rarely visit.  I'm actually tired of using it, and really think that the founders should give more back to the people who use it.  It's true, there are very few things that you have to pay for, but the 10% of advertising that is displayed on each page alone is hauling in the bucks.

In my view, a one time donation of one billion dollars will go along way in renovating a lot of distressed schools.  Help with infrastructure projects that our forward leaning "Socialist" society should not be doing. But that is not the way that our do now and pay for later  government is geared to work. I do applaud the recent donation by Mark Zuckerberg of  $100 million to Newark Public Schools, the public school system of Newark, New Jersey. Zuckerberg along with Bill Gates and  Warren Buffett signed a promise they called the "Giving Pledge", in which they promised to donate to charity at least half of their wealth over the course of time, and invited others among the wealthy to donate 50% or more of their wealth to charity.

And the beat goes on.....

Google Chrome surpasses Firefox, takes #2 spot in the UK Score: More about Printer Friendly Send to a Friend Save as PDF

When Firefox became the alternative of choice to Internet Explorer, I'm sure its developers never imagined they were opening the door for a third party to take over in a fraction of the time it took them to transform the browser market, it was a harsh first few years after all. When you consider other companies like Opera tried for years but never captured the mass following they probably deserved, it's an overwhelmingly impressive feat for Google and its Chrome browser.

DOCTYPES Score: More about Printer Friendly Send to a Friend Save as PDF

Every now and then I get something thrown at me that makes no sense at all.  The most recent one is that you can change the DOCTYPE of a theme.  That is the biggest lump of bull shit I've ever heard.  A theme is dependent on the DOCTYPE  that is established in the CMS.  If you validate a theme that is the default theme of RavenNuke(tm) and since the doctype of RN is set for XHTML 1.0 Transitional then the theme had best comply to that standard or else the validator will attempt to fall back to XHTML 1.0 Transitional and you will get a lot of errors.  If you code your theme for HTML 4.0 Transitional, it isn't going to validate against that.  It is going to look for a DOCTYPE of XHTML 1.0 Transitional and it will find errors.

So in essence, you cannot place a doctype inside of a theme and I don't give a rotten damn if you're a expert or not.

Stuck On Theme Compliance Score: More about Printer Friendly Send to a Friend Save as PDF
Seems I'm stuck on theme compliance. But, it's such a critical issue when you think in regards to browser compatibility.  To be able to ensure that your web site can be seen on all browsers (and there's a lot of them out there)  you need to ensure that first and foremost your theme is compliant with W3C standards.  Another standard I discovered recently is a online web check tool that is located at  http://www.onlinewebcheck.com/check.php .  If you have a W3C compliant theme and you run it through the tool I just wrote about, you will possibly discover a bunch of errors and warnings that W3C doesn't consider in it's compliance checks.

Now that I have run through that, I'll write about something else that is theme related.  Did you know that if you have more than one theme on your website and you want to see if all of them are compliant, you will have to assign each of them as the default theme before W3C can check it for compliance.  It only checks the default theme which is set in admin under preferences.

Good Stuff To Know

Good Stuff

DNS Black Listed Check

Also known as DNSBL''s or DNS Blacklists, are spam blocking lists that allow a website administrator to block messages from specific systems that have a history of sending spam. As their name implies, the lists are based on the Internet''s Domain Name System, which converts complicated, numerical IP address such as 140.239.191.10 into domain names like example.net, making the lists much easier to read, use, and search. If the maintainer of a DNS Blacklist has in the past received spam of any kind from a specific domain name, that server would be ''blacklisted'' and all messages sent from it would be either flagged or rejected from all sites that use that specific list.

Today many servers check to see if the senders mail is blacklisted, some people don''t know but their server may be or is listed. This causes errors if you send email from a server and the server is blacklisted, now it''s easy to look at most popular DNS black list services to see if any of your sites are listed . Is your sites URL blacklisted, are you considered a spam bot? Click the link above to find out.

Project Honey Pot
Anytime a person applies for membership here my software runs a check to see if their IP is blacklisted or if it is a registered spammer. Follow the link above and become a Project Honey Pot member. Save yourself some headaches and grief by checking those IPs. It takes a little longer (about 2 minutes) but it is definately worth it.

Search Engine Optimization

Optimize Your HTML
Using this helpful tool will remove all the extra white spacing in your HTML website. This will optimize your sites for faster load speed.

A Spiders Eye View
What does a search engine see when it spiders your website? Follow this link to find out, it will help you improve your website.

Bot Defense
Bot defense gives your website protection against abuse by known IP offenders. When someone enters your website using a known IP number which has a history of posting spam it will be blocked and a notification will be emailed to you. It also detects proxies, I find this to be a very useful tool and use it on my site here.
